An example of the terrible weather conditions of this offensive can be found in the history of the 117th, 1st battalion.  Second Platoon of Company D was reduced to almost half-strength by frostbite.

PFC. Warren Harbaugh Co. K, 117th remembers vividly having to literally push the older members of his company through the snow.  Harbaugh had just turned 19 on Christmas day.....'celebrated' near Trois Ponts fighting Germans and taking cover from American P-47s.
